Design Team ~ Saturday Theme of the Week Project ~ Sweet Reindeer

I am really enjoying being a member of the Paper Piecings by Nikki design team. Today, I am adding a project from the Just Believe Christmas Pattern Set, which you can find here, http://www.paperpiecingsbynikki.com/category_20/ChristmasWinter.htm  I made this card for the Saturday Theme of the Week Project. Of course, with Christmas just around the corner, the theme is anything holidays.

I just love this little Reindeer and how happy she is. I wanted to do a little something more with her other than just paste her onto a square card, so I decided I would piece her all together in my Sure Cuts A lot application then create a shadow for the card.

I cannot tell you how long it took me to get this shadow part to work out correctly so that I could make the card base. I did not flip the back when I made the backside, so when I folded it, the two pieces did not match up correctly. I hate it when that happens.

I am getting braver while using my cricut machines. I have read so many blog postings where the user has cut out specific size colors and laid them all out on the mat and did one cut rather than lots of cuts. This week, after reading yet again that someone did this, I decided that I was going to try it myself. I learned a valuable lesson… you have to pay attention to the way the mat enters the cricut and how it cuts as well. I have found that when I use my SCAL application if I lay my mat down in front of my computer, it helps me. At least for now anyway. As you can see, I got a little close with the red piece.

Once I got all of the pieces cut, I sat down and began the gluing process. I also decided to use some pop-dots on the front legs to give the card a little more dimension.

I think she might need a bow around her neck and maybe some tiny bows around her antlers. In truth, I think she needs to be a little bit fatter as well, so you have more room to write a note on the inside, but all in all, I still like how she turned out.

I will be back the first of the week with more fun projects from Nikki’s awesome Design Team. Thanks for stopping by for a look. Leave a comment if you are so inspired.

Design Team ~ Wednesday Tag Challenge ~ I Believe

There are times when something you want to create just does not turn out the way you had envisioned in the planning process. This tag is one of those visions that did not turn out quite like I had hoped. Which of course only means I have to keep working until I get it the way I want it. Crafting is a process for me sometimes, I just keep going until I get the desired results.

This tag was made using the Just Believe Christmas pattern from Paper Piecings by Nikki. You can find the pattern here http://www.paperpiecingsbynikki.com/category_20/ChristmasWinter.htm It is the same pattern I used to complete my cute reindeer card earlier in the week. There are just so many things you can do with the wonderful patterns Nikki creates.

Thanks for stopping by today, I welcome your comments.

A Very Beary Christmas

Today’s posting is for a challenge for Paper Piecings by Nikki. this challenge can be found here http://paperpiecingsbynikki.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-challenge-week-1.html  I wrote about this challenge a few days ago on my blog.

As part of the Design Team I chose to use the Very Beary Christmas set for the challenge. If you too would like to make a project using this file, you can do so by following this quick link. http://www.paperpiecingsbynikki.com/category_20/ChristmasWinter.htm

I am making this scrapbook for my granddaughter, It is a 2 page 12x12 layout. Of course, Christmas isn’t here yet, so you get to look at the frames instead of the pictures of my adorable granddaughter. I chose the less is better concept for these two pages. However, after my son and daughter in law see them, if they wants more bears added, I can surely do that. My thought process has always been that I do not want to add to much to take away from the real reason for the page layout, which in this case is a very adorable little girl who just turned one year old on the 12th of this month. I can see adding another bear with an ornament to the one page.

Page one of the two page layout has a large happy bear who just received a huge candy cane for Christmas. He may be happy, but I bet his dentist won’t be so happy after he eats all that candy! I created his Santa Hat by ripping apart of cotton ball to create fur. Every happy bear needs a santa hat, right?

There are two frames for mom and dad to add photos of their adorable little peanut on this layout.  Again, I chose the simple "less is better" but it can be altered if mom and dad desire.

Here is what this first page looks like.  I was concerned about the stipes, but thought that when the graphics are added, the stripes will not matter as much because they will be covered.

The second page holds more graphics. I used a different paper as the frames for the added graphics. I used the adorable bear with the light strand, so I wanted to stick with the Christmas Tree theme so I used some sprakle ornament paper.  The sparkle also coordinates with the sparkle in the words at the top of the page, and with the light string with the bear.

Here is a better picture of the adorable bear with the sparkle lights, followed by a picture of the words.   For this layout I made a few changes to the words however.  I used my Sure Cuts A lot application and I welded the words.  I then created a shadow to put behind the words.

I know you will enjoy this file as much as I do.  There are so many possibilities with this file.  I will have more to share with you in the near future.

Thanks for stopping by and leave me a comment and let me know what you are thinking.

Design Team Announcement, A Christmas Challenge, and a Reindeer Card

Happy Sunday y’all

Can you believe there are 2 weeks left until Christmas.  Where has the time gone this year?

I have some exciting news to share with all of you.

I am now part of the Paper Piecings by Nikki Design Team. Nikki has some great SVG’s and I look forward to displaying a lot more of my work using her designs. The card below was completed with one of her designs. You will find Nikki’s blog here, http://paperpiecingsbynikki.blogspot.com/. I invite you all to stop by and check out her wonderful work.

Nikki also has a wonderful opportunity for a great prize on her blog. Take a look and enter her challenge. All you have to do is use on of her Paper Piecings Designs from her store here http://paperpiecingsbynikki.com/ to create a Scrapbook page and link it up with the link provided. IT should be a lot of fun!!! I can’t wait to see what each of you have created for this Christmas challenge.

Now for the card.

This is my first Design Team Project and I had a lot of fun putting Rudolph together. For this card, I used the Just Believe Christmas Pattern Set found here, http://www.paperpiecingsbynikki.com/category_20/ChristmasWinter.htm.

I put Rudolph together and added him to the festive holiday paper.  This paper is from the Recollections collection and has a bit of glitter and sparkle.  Every reindeer needs a little bit of sparkle, right? I also added a little Happy Holiday’s message cut with one of my Spellbinders and a piece of scrap paper.

I completed the card by gluing the card front to a sheet of purple card stock cut 6” x 6” with rounded corners, I then added a sheet of white card stock on the inside so it would be easier to write a message to the recipient. I also rounded the corners of this insert and stamps a string of lights at the top and the bottom. I used my Stampin’ Up blending pen along with my Stampin’ Up green and red stamp pads to add color to the light strings.

Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to your comments.
