I Double Dog Dare You ~ First Reader Challenge

Welcome to I Double Dog Dare You's Second Challenge -- to do a book or lay-out that would and could be a first reader depicting nursery rhymes, See Dick - See Jane - See Spot, or any of your favorite Golden Books. And they were up to the challenge???? They were Double Dog Dared to do where few could meet the next frontier and challenge!!! I can't wait to see all of the imagination soar and rise to the reading occassion!!!

This was a fun project for me to work on.  While i am not done with it by any means, I have a quick start.  I am working on creating a "My first ABC Book"  However, I want to create this with different, non-traditional items for most of the alphabet.  Today, I will show you the front cover, as well as the first two letters of the book.

I am using a white heavy board that I picked up at JoAnn's sometime ago.  When I started the project, I was sure I had enough to complete the project, however, a few mistakes on my part and forgetting that I used some of the board for a previous project has left me short to do this whole project.  Not to worry, I will photo and share with you my progress from time to time.  After all, I have 24 more letters to complete.  Hey, I might even need some help with some of the letters as I progress.

Here is what I have completed to this point.

To create my book, I am using the Cartridge elegant Edges.  I chose the Hearts book and sized it for the size I needed.  the just duplicated it for the added pages.   I then took thicker paper from my paper stacks and cut them to match so I could cover the white board.

This is the process that got me into trouble the first cut.  I forgot to flip the design so I could cover the back side of the white board for the even pages.  Those who know me well, know I despise wasting paper, so needless to say I was pretty upset.  However, silly me quickly realized that I can still use that paper for the front sides, I will just have duplicates of some of my papers.

Here is the front cover for my book.  The "bro" and "sis" are rubber.  They are the cutest thing, but I am not yet confident they will stay glued onto the embossed paper. I used a Helmars 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to glue them on, so I am hoping.    The Heart in the bottom right corner is a cutout and because i did not want to see the page behind it, I added a small piece of felt.  I want this book to be a touchy feely type book.  So this felt heart is a good start.

Here is the first page for my book.  Any yes, I know, Apple is pretty traditional for an alphabet book.  However, remember, I want this to be a touchy feely book so It was the logical way to go and use felt for the apple.

The apple design  came from the Back to School collection at Paper Piecings by Nikki.

Now, here is the second page which I have completed.  B is for Bear.  I really wanted to make the bear fuzzy, but as much as I dug through all of my stash, I did not have any fuzzy bear material. I was so disappointed.

The cute little bear is also a pattern from Paper Piecings by Nikki.  The set is called Beary Beary Fun and can be found here.

I have also create a covered back page for the book.  While the outsides match using the Swiss Dot paper, from DCWV "The Guy Stack" the insides covers are different.  At this point, all of the papers I have used have come from this stack.  However, I will be using a lot of different papers throughout the book.

There is a super talented group of ladies that have arisen to this dare and the complete line-up is listed below just in case you get lost along the way. Hate to see you get lost with your reading progress and wouldn't want you to miss a single first reader:
