The inside of the card says, “Just to say HI!”  (I don’t know why I don’t have a photo of the inside).

This is my first time of participating in the Calendar Girls Blog hop.  My holiday for February is Leap Year.  Every fourth year we are lucky enough to have an added day included in our calendars.  Although, I must say, I do feel sorry for the poor person(s) who are born on this day.  They only get to celebrate their birthday every four years.  However, now that I think about it, I would be a great young age had I been born on Leap Year day.

What first comes to my mind when I think about Leap Year is a big ole birthday party. A celebration like no other, after all, you have to catch up for three years of missed birthdays. Right?  Well, my idea was way to elaborate for a small card, so I went with something a little less dramatic.  Leaping Frogs…

I simply found a leaping frog online, duplicated him twice,  shrunk down two of them and printed them out on a beige sheet of paper.  I then colored them using my Prisma Watercolor Pencils and blended them with my Stampin’ Up blending pens.  To add the sentiment, I created this in Photoshop as well, and printed it (mirror image) onto my Rob Onz sheet.  I then added it to the card like you would any store bought rub on.

Thanks for stopping by here is the rest of the blog hop in case you happened upon my page without starting at the front.

Kari’s Purplie’s Design Team

Photobucket

This week for my Kari's Purplie’s Design Team project, I chose to make a Paper Cake decorated with pink and gold roses, and purple butterflies.

Do you ever have one of those crafting days where nothing seems to go your way?  Today seemed to be that way for me, I decided to make a paper cake and decorate it in purple butterflies and a combination of silk and hand crafted flowers.

I struggled making the circle cakes, but finally got the three layers made.  I then took the assembled cake out to my front porch to spray it with glimmer mist in a pretty purple.  I noticed as it was drying that the weight of the top two tiers was sinking down the bottom layer. So unfortunately, I had to cut the bottom layer away and create a plate for the two top layers to sit on.

I will say, this looked a lot better in my mind then it does in the completed design.  This is one of those projects that I will have to attempt again, just because I do not feel I was all that successful this go around.

Here are my pictures.

Please make sure you take time to visit my Design Team sisters and leave some love on their projects.

We're Off To See The Wizard

We're Off to See the Wizard the wonderful Wizard of Oz to hopefully get the Tin Man a heart, the Lion courage, and the Scarecrow a brain! But there's the poppy fields to beware of as you could get very sleepy! The Wicked Witch but we know she's afraid of water. The flying monkeys . . . just totally freaky looking!!!!  You're probably still dizzy from the spinning whirling twirling house and watching all those things passing by like a nightmare especially that Miss Gulch on her bicycle! Poor Toto hiding in the basket, but can you blame him? Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain as he knows not what he speaks! And then there are the delightful munchkins that sing 3 octives highly than humanly possible. I almost forgot the good witch Glinda - how could I forget her --- she was just too sugary sweet to my standards but as a Good Witch goes, she was the best, but why didn't she just tell Dorothy she had the power to return all along and wait until the end - geesh! And then only bad witches are ugly --- come on now! Its the Merry Old Land of Oz! I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore Toto. . . .

We're paying homage to the Wizard of Oz today with our blog hop! So, grab your beverage of choice and those ruby red slippers of yours, click them twice and repeat after me - "there's no place like home, there's no place like home"!

We have a generous sponsor of Creative Kuts of http://creativekuts.com/ who is offering two (2) $10 Gift Certificates to two (2) lucky winners - winners will be selected by Random draw BUT you must leave comments on all the blogs today along with leaving a comment that you are visiting from We're Off to See the Wizard on their blog page, http://creativekuts.blogspot.com/, and/or like their facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Creative-Kuts/130937843644274

Also Paper House Productions 7 - piece paper assortment of 12 x 12 pieces of paper!

We have a great line-up for you today and you should have arrived from
Lisa - http://handmadewithlove-lisa.blogspot.com/ . If not, or you just dropped in to visit today, we don't want you to miss a single story of the travels of our "characters" from start to finish and would love for you to begin at the beginning of our hop with Lynne - http://slasewcraftiness.blogspot.com/

Who doesn’t love them some Wizard of Oz, an old iconic movie.  I know I sure do.

For this project, I decided I wanted to do something totally different, so I decided to try a 3-D project.   I used a paper piecing Pattern from http://paperpiecingsbynikki.com to complete this design.  Nikki has great patterns and they are fast and easy to work with.

To create the back drop for the project, we used water color paints and a sponge, to paint the sky and grass.  To add the trees I used the Cindy Loo Cartridge.  From there, I just created the awesome characters and used dimensional squares (lots of dimensional) to add the characters walking the yellow brick road.  I still have to add the wicked witch and the flying monkey, however, the two I made at the time we a smidge to large to add to this project, so I need to remake them.

I hope you enjoyed your brief trip down the yellow brick road!

As every good story, it has a beginning and a happily ever after - Dorothy went home and all was well with the world and Dorothy told Auntie Em - there's no place like home!!!!!! AWWWW how sweet! Hope you enjoyed my project and I must send you along your way and a place beyond the rainbow.

Here is the list of hoppers! Enjoy!!

Scrappy EMT Monty Design Team Project

Happy Valentine's Day

From our Design Team Leader, Audrey:

Today is the Design Teams Monthly Blog Hop. They were asked to make a project using Hearts, Black, White, Pink and Red. They each have made some wonderful projects for everyone to see. Please stop by each members blog and check out all the wonderful creations that they have made to share and see how they made their projects.

Here is the design I came up with for this Valentine's Day project. I hope you like it.

My favorite part of this card is the Love themed background.  I have been dying to use this letterpress plate I got from Stampin’ Up.  I really like how it looks. I really wanted my letters to be pink, but I did not have any white letterpress ink to add to my white.  I then added the red border, that was punched out using an ek punch.  I wish I knew what the name of it was, but I did not write it on the back of the punch.   I topped off the border with a scalloped heart on the left, from an svgcuts collection, and added a pink flower and a sentiment.  For the hearts on the right, I simply cut them out with my cricut and added in two slots to run my ribbon through, then use a dimensional square to raise the top heart and tied my bow.  I finished off the card by adding two pink flowers from a string of ribbon my sister in law (you can visit her blog here) sent me, and a white flower with a pearl in the center from a string of ribbon I purchased at JoAnn’s.  Both hearts on the front are set up with dimensional squares.  I don’t know what I would do if I could not use dimensional squares (or dots)  in my works of art!!!

The one issue I have when I work with the letterpress is the ink takes forever to dry, and even after I have heat set it, it still sometimes smears when I am embellishing my card, as you can see there are a few smudge marks on the card itself.

Thank you for joining us for our Monthly Design Team Blog Hop, and as always, I look forward to reading your comments.  These always motivate me and help inspire me to do more with my art.  Please take time to visit all my design team sisters, the next stop along the way is Nicolette at www.beyoundscrapin.blogspot.com. If you get lost you go can back to Scrappyemt (www.scrappyemt.blogspot.comCome back weekly and check out what we all create for our weekly post.

Happy Valentine's Day !
