I found this cute coloring page online and colored it using Adobe Photoshop.  I also took some liberties and added more bricks to the wall because I thought the few they had looked to sparse and they were odd shaped.  Therefore, I simply used the rectangle tool, added more, and colored them all the same color.

Scooby is doing everything he can to keep this ugly monster out of the house and away from his Scooby treats.  I completed the card by adding a banner with a black border.  We needed to let people know Scooby was serious about protecting his treats.

For the inside of this card, I used the same coloring as the walls on the front of the card, and added my sentiment in black.  I also found a picture of just Scooby’s face, colored it, and added it to the top right corner for a little flair.

Simple yes, but it was fun to color and create this card.

Mardi Gras Parade Blog Hop

Photobucket

Welcome to our Mardi Gras parade. I must warn you though while you may enjoy jumping up to catch beads, doubloons, cups, stuffed animals--whatever! Please yell at the float riders "Throw me something, Mister!" Bring a large, sturdy plastic or cloth bag to hold all the treasure you'll be catching - if you try to put all of your beads around your neck, you'll have a hard time standing up straight! Be prepared: some people get so overcome with excitement they will occasionally jump in front of you to grab what a rider has thrown to you. Don't get into a tug-o-war....there are many more floats on the way! If you're from far away, some visitors hold up a sign saying where they are from.. our local riders love to see people from far away have a good time and will throw to them to make sure they do!

The colors of Mardi Gras are: Purple which reprsents justice; Green which represents faith; and Gold which represents power.Mardi Gras is always held the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is music, parades, picnics, floats, excitement ... and one big holiday in New Orleans! Everyone is wearing purple, green, and gold; and adorned with long beads caught from the beautiful floats. They sit on the ground throwing balls, playing music, having a picnic, and watching the crowds walk by between parades.

Instead of beads, coconuts (which apparently is the most prized throw from floats) and other baubles, we have a great sponsor:

  • $15 Gift Card for Treasure Box Designs (http://www.treasureboxdesigns.com/). They are asking you to stop by their blog and checking out their Guest Designer projects and leaving a comment at http://treasureboxdesigns.blogspot.com/. They are a part of the parade route!
  • $50 Gift card from Anita Meadows Cannon

Sew, sit back with your beverage of choice, just keep in mind the police will be in full force watching for drunken lewdness as this is a family event! Feel free to watch in costume, as this is a festive hop!! If you have arrived from Rachelle-http://creationsbyrachelle.blogspot.com on the parade route, then you are sitting at the best seat in the house! If you have just happened to be visiting me today, don't get me wrong as I always love visitors, I would love for you to start at the beginning of our parade route at Lynne, your hostess (along with Kimberly), at http://slasewcraftiness.blogspot.com/.

When I think of Mardi Gras, I think of the wonderful masquerade masques and the parades.  Someday I hope to go to New Orleans and join in on the fun, however, until then, I will just enjoy my homemade Mardi Gras mask.

I used a free SVG cut from Paper Yoga and cut it out with my good Stampin’ Up yellow and purple paper.  I chose this paper because Stampin’ Up paper is good and heavy and I knew it would withstand the weight of the glitter, sequins, and feathers.

Once I cut out the masks, I got busy gluing on all my sequins.  I tried many methods of gluing before I found one that worked best.  I tried tweezers, but as luck would have it, the sequins kept popping out of the tweezers.  So, I ended up using toothpicks.

Using white glue (Allene’s Super Hold) I used to tooth pick to lay the glue down on the yellow portion of the mask.  I wanted to be sure to get enough glue, but not too much to soak the paper.  I then used one of my toothpicks and barely dipped the tip in the glue.  I then used that tipped pick to pick up the sequins and lay them down on the mask.   The process went really fast once I found a technique that worked well.

One the top layer was dry, I moved on the next step.  Adding the feathers.  I looked at so many masks online, and saw most of them had feathers of some sort or another.  I knew I wanted feather, but I knew I didn’t want as many as I had seen online.  So, I compromised and added feathers only on the sides of my mask.  I thought green and yellow would be perfect to highlight the colors in the sequins.   Now, I wait as these need to dry as well.

While I was waiting for the feathers to dry, I moved into the final step, adding the glitter to the bottom layer of the mask.  This was a super fast and easy process.  I watch a Hero Arts video that showed us how to use your Xyron to help make glittering a fast and easy process.  So, I ran my mask through my 5” Xyron machine (had to turn the mask upside down) and added the sticky to the whole mask.  I then laid down the glitter.  I simply opened the purple glitter and poured the bottle out on the mask.  I used a craft stick to push the glitter from one end of the mask to the other end, fully covering the entire layer.

Using my hot glue gun, I added a bead of hot glue on the reverse side of the sequin layered mask being careful to get around the eyes and the tips.  I then carefully laid the top layer down on top of the bottom layer.  Added pressure so the two layers would securely adhere.  I finished off the mask with a bamboo stick (a shish-ka-bob stick) for a holder.

I am now ready for my first Mardi Gras parade.  Who would like to join me?

Hope enjoyed my float in the parade. To continue on the parade route, Your next stop is Inga Klaus ~ http://mommahobbit.blogspot.com/ . I would love for you to throw me your comments as to my tribute to Mardi Gras!

Miracles Blog ~ Life's Little Miricles

Photobucket

Welcome to my project

Thank you for stopping by my blog today to read about my tiny miracle.  In 1983 my son was born.  What we had hoped would be a big healthy baby, turned out to be a big healthy baby with a few problems.

My son was born two days late after three days of being in labor.  Because my son was so large, it caused serious complications during birth.   I ended up having an emergency C-section, but not until the damage had already been done.  When the doctor told me I was going to have a c-section, he told me that my baby’s heart had slowed, his lungs were in danger, and he was stuck.  They had tried using forceps, and he was still stuck.

So right then, in the delivery room the doctors did an emergency c-section.  I was waken several hours later by a team of nurses and doctors who were all telling me they were taking my son to another state by ambulance and I was not allowed to go because of my surgery.  The doctor told me my son had some problems with his lungs, but more importantly, they had fractured his skull in delivery.  Thankfully, I found out a few days later is was not bad because babies heads are so soft.

He spent a week in NICU.  I have very few pictures of him in this first week of his life because I was not there. I was not even allowed to travel to go get him because of the surgery.  He was a week old before I finally got to hold my new son.

Now… almost 30 years later, my son, who had a rough start in his life has a beautiful daughter of his own.  My son, and his wife had a beautiful daughter in December of 2010.  She is now a little over a year old and just the cutest thing.  However, this little angel was born a month early and was spent just shy of a week in the hospital herself. While she too had a rough start in life, she is a very healthy and active young lady.

Because there have been two beautiful miracles, I decided to highlight both my son and my granddaughter.  I split my page in half, the top half done in a baby blue and the bottom in a baby pink.  I am not a person who does a lot of embellishments on my scrapbook pages because they do not fit into the scrapbook page.  I am still toying with the idea of what type of words to add that work for both births.  I have tried several and none of them really worked for what I thought I wanted.  So, for now, I have just the two pictures and a few embellishments.

If you happened by my page by change, you should start at the begining of the blog hop by going to Melissa's page.  However, if you are following along the hop in order, you came from Jill - http://craftwithanangel.blogspot.com/ and you will now move on to Anita ~   http://www.anitaandbugs.blogspot.com

Kari’s Purplie’s Design Team

Photobucket

Good Morning,

Welcome to my Kari’s Purplies Design Team posting.  This week Kari challenged us to make our favorite flower and provide our readers the recipe of how we completed the process.

It is no secret, I love flowers and I have been in the flower learning process for several months now, as such, I was very excited with this new challenge to see what I could create.

This is my all time favorite flower from the Cricut Cartridge Flower Shoppe.  It is so simple to make as well.

I simply cut out 6 pieces for this flower starting with 2.5” and working my way down in ½ “increments.

2 layers at 2.5”
2 layers at 2”
1 layer at 1.5”
1 layer at 1”

Before I glued each layer together, I took a pink ink and inked all of the edges.  I love the heart shape of the petals and bend them at each heart.  This also makes it very easy to ink the edges.  I then used the smallest end of a paint brush and rolled the edges of my petals under just a wee little bit.

In the past when I have made this flower, I have used a small glue dot to add some glitter, or glass beads to the center.  Today, I decided I wanted to try something different, so rather than add the normal, I added a brad to connect the first two layers.  With some gold or silver brads a person could use fingernail polish to change the color of the brad.

After completing the inking and rolling, I simply add white glue between each layer to glue them together.   As I glue them I just alternate the petals by turn each layer just a tad.

I hope you like my flower, and I look forward to your  comments.  Remember to visit my Design Team sisters’ blogs and check out what each of them have made as well.   Then come back on Thursday to see what we have done with our wonderful flowers.

Here are my DT  Sisters.
