Scrappy EMT ~ Anniversary Blog Hop

Photobucket

Welcome to Scrappy EMT Blog Anniversary ... Just think, she has been blogging and showcasing not only her many talented projects but those of others. At this time, it is a time of celebration, balloons, party hats, and fun for all as we celebrate her FIRST YEAR!!!

Projects are going to be reflecting "baby" as when each of us have a blog, we start out at baby steps and keep progressing. We get help from our friends and we help our friends!!! This is a wonderful community of helping each other! With that in mind, let the celebration begin!!!

If you came to visit me, I really appreciate that but don't want you to miss a single project and would love for you to start at the beginning which of course is our Anniversary Girl, Audrey Dickenson aka Scrappy EMT. If you arrived with putting on your big girl panties and taking your baby steps at Scrappy EMT then you are at the right place of our party!!!!

We have a wonderful sponsor for you today and would love for you to comment on each of the blogs along the way along with becoming a follower if you aren't already!!!!

The celebration of a new life is always a joyous occasion, and celebrating a milestone anniversary is another reason to celebrate. Congratulation Audrey on your one year of blogging. I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful projects.

For this occasion, I made a layout for my granddaughter. My son has always loved Tigger and when they got pregnant, they decided that they would do the baby room in Pooh Bear characters. So, why wouldn't gramma create something with Tigger for the baby room. This will eventually be a multi-page layout, but I honestly ran out of time before I could get other pages added for this hop.

This page highlights Pooh's tree house, and Tigger bouncing around on the page. Look at that really happy face as he looks at the picture of the new baby. (Once the baby picture is added anyways). I used dimensionals to pop both Tigger and the tree house off the page.

Here are some better pics of the tree house and Tigger.

Your next stop along the way is Michele http://chelescrafts.blogspot.com/. I'm so glad you stopped by and make sure you wish Audrey a very Happy Blogaversary!!!!

Here is my nature project...

When I thought about what I could do to celebrate nature, I instantly thought about hunting and what I could do for my son who is an avid hunter. He hunts for food and not just the thrill of the kill. As such, I decided that I would create him a layout to highlight some of his trips, camping, and hunting. There are so many different ways he could go with this layout.

I stuck with super simple as to not distract from the great pictures he will be adding. I wanted to add a third picture layout for him, but was unsure if it looked good. So, I left it off and will consult with my son to see if he wants another spot for pictures.

Once my son decides which pictures he will add, I will then put it all together in a scrapbooking frame for him.

Thank you so much for joining us and helping us celebrate Nature! Your next stop is the talented and crafty Amy Jo- http://lv2scrapandfibrofacts.blogspot.com/.

Lorby's World ~ Dr. Seuss Blog Hop

Photobucket

“Think left and think right and think low and think high.
Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”
― Dr. Seuss

Don't hop on pop but hop on top of the Dr. Seuss Blog Hop, where a bunch of talented people came up with their own interpretations of the wonderful imagination of Dr. Seuss. The skies the limit when you have an imagination like Dr. Seuss and talent like those in this hop. Our hop today is hostessed by Jearise in Lorby's World (link to http://lorbysworld.blogspot.com) and that is were to begin if you've happened here by chance otherwise continue on my friend.

Jearise in Lorby's World has some fun blog candy for this hop. She has a stuffed Cat in the Hall and a fun Thing 1 and Thing 2 craft plus a $10 gift card to Michaels. I know they're silly but doesn't that follow in the steps of Dr. Seuss?

Today I am trying something totally different.  I am going to hand draw something for my project. For those of you who follow my blog, you know that I cannot draw.  I suppose this is why many years ago I took up digital arts.  However, the more crafty blogs I visit, and the more crafty friends I visit with, I realize that I need to be a more rounded crafter and not always focus on the same techniques.  So today, with the inspiration of the fun and silliness of Dr. Seuss, I am stepping out of my comfort zone and having a blast.

Today, the new Dr. Seuss movie the Lorax is released, so I thought this would be a great thing for me to draw.  That, and his plump little body looked easy enough to draw.    Boy was I wrong on that thought process.  He was not all that easy to draw.  I just hope that you cannot see all my eraser marks on my paper, I have tried hard to color over them.   The real problem came when it was time to color him and make him look realistic, especially since I have just a few colors of Prisma Watercolor pencils.

Eventually, I will take him and frame him with the trees on each side of him.  I have not decided if I want to use this first one I drew, or if I want to try and draw a better one.  I am not sure about the eyes on this one either.  He has that look about him like he is scolding you for something, or wondering what you are up to.  Maybe, (since I have not seen the movie and it has been forever since I read the book) that look is telling you, that you should be doing something about the environment.  Who knows.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to check out my first drawing.  I had a lot of fun doing this and I do look forward to sitting down and doing more drawings soon.

Thank you for joining us because...

Kari’s Purplie’s Design Team

Photobucket

Welcome back to my blog once again.

For today's Kari's Purplie's Design Team posting we were asked to create a sketch and then create a card or layout from that sketch.  Crafty and Green created a beautiful sketch for us, which I decided to use but switch it around just a bit to make it my own.

Yesterday I posted that one of my favorite embellishments were flowers.  This card was no different, as I added flowers to it as well.  However, this time I tried something a little bit different.  While shopping at Wal-Mart, I found these cool flower petals in the wedding isle.  What is even better, they were on sale half off. I bought them in both plain white and light pastel colors.  There are over 500 in each box.  I think they will last a while.
I used tiny purple and ivory roses from my stash to complete the center of the design.

Sorry for the ugly craft mat - it sure is well used and really does protect my dining room table.
To make my flowers, I used a dab of hot glue in the center of the petal, I then added the tiny rose and cupped it up around the bottom of the tiny rose.  I then added a second petal by gluing it offset from the first one.  I really like how they turned out.

My sister in law, Lisa over at My Crafty Spaces gave me these awesome Easter images and I thought this sketch would be a great time to try one out.  I had tried to create the image using my RubOnz, but I did not have much luck.  so I had to rethink my idea.  I ended printing the design out on yellow Stampin' Up card stock, then cutting the shape out using my Sizzix Die.  However, I wanted something different, so I used my metal straight edge and my trusty exacto knife and I sliced off the top and bottom portions of the cut, giving it a square look rather than the pointed look it would normally have.

I then did the same thing with my Happy Easter sentiment.  I was unsure how I wanted to embellish the sentiment, so I went simple and added two small pearls at the points. The Happy Easter Sentiment is Stampin' Up.

I was not sure I would like this squared look, however, the more I look at it, the more I like it.  It makes me wonder what else I can do to change up this cut. It provides a whole different look from the standard cut I use quite often. I am beginning to get a little more adventurous with my designs, yet, I still revert back to the simplistic side I am most familiar with most of the time.

I hope you have enjoyed my Easter Card.  Please be sure to stop at each of my Design Team Sister blogs. I know you will not be disappointed in their designs.

Scrappy EMT Embellishments Project

Photobucket

Good Morning,

For this posting I am showcasing my favorite embellishments that i like to use when I design.  I have always liked adding flowers to my designs.  Recently I purchased the Flower Shoppe cartridge which only adds to my desire to use more flowers in my work. This addition to my cartridge library makes it so much fun to add floral into my designs.  I also like to work with lace, especially when I add flowers.  I really like the combination of the two.  I am also a fan of pastels, so it made perfect sense for me to take flowers and put them on pretty purples and lavenders.

These flowers are made from the flower shoppe cartridge, cut at 1.5" and 1". I inked them before I removed them from my cricut mat.  I wanted to  try to create the real look of a flower petal.  I am not yet sure if I like the look that was created here. .

For the light pink flower, I used two 1.5" cuts, and curled the petals under, I then added the 1" cut layer and secured the two with a golden brad.  I finished off the look by adding two cut leaves.  I did however, forget to add my vines to the leaves.  *note to self, add vines*   For the darker pink flower I followed the same process, sans the double 1.5" cut layer.

What I really like about the Flower Shoppe cartridge is the versatility of what you can do with the cuts.  With a wide open imagination, the possibilities are absolutely endless.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.  I look forward to your comments.  Please make sure you stop in and visit my Design Team Sisters projects as well.  I know you will not be disappointed.

Kari’s Purplie’s Design Team

Photobucket

Welcome to another posting for Kari’sDesign Team.  Last week Kari challenged us to make a flower and tell our readers how we made the flower.  You can read my posting here, if you want to know how I made my flower.  This week, she asked us to take that same flower and create an altered journal.  Here is what I came up with for the challenge.

One of my favorite colors is pink, so it was without question that I use pink when I made my flower. However, had I known when I created the flower, what we were going to do with them, I would have used a much softer color of pink.

However, now that I have this bright pink flower, I have to use it. It took me a while to figure out how I could make my altered journal, but once I did, I got busy.

The paper I used is from the Paris Night’s Collection.  This is paper I received from my SIL and one of my fellow purplies, Lisa.  I am not a big vintage person but I am learning to like it more every day.

First I cut the top cover out of the note pad paper.  I rounded the edges and used a glue stick to glue the paper to the top of the composition notebook.  I then took a black stripped paper and cut a strip and added it to the left hand side of the notebook.  A great idea, I like how this looked, but I knew I was not yet done.  I had the damask strip of paper that I also wanted to add.  It was not until I had glued it on that I realized the damask strip totally covered the black stripped strip.  You can barely see the black in the curved areas of the top strip.

I really like how this looks, and now ,I have to add my flower.  I tried adding pearls to the design, but they quickly got lost in all of the musical notes. So I had to be a little more creative.  I knew I wanted a flourish, so I took one of my paper piercing strips and rather than poke holes to sew through, I used a colored marker to draw my design.  I then used a white glue to add my own pink gems to make my flourish.  I was not sure how this was going to look, but I am quite pleased with the final results.  Once all the gems were dry, I used my hot glue gun to add the flower.

Now, I am torn as to whether or not I want to add more to the journal cover or not.  I thought I could add “Singing Praises” or even “Just a Note” but I really like this paper, and I worried that anything extra would distract from the look of the book.  What do you think?  Should I add more to the front of the journal or should I leave it blanks as it is?

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  I welcome your comments as this is how I improve my work.  Please make sure you stop by my sister purplies blogs and see their altered journals as well.

Here is the full list.
