Run For The Roses Derby Hat

WELCOME GUESTS!!
We are so excited to bring you this fun blog hop featuring some Derby Themed projects.
Especially to one of our Hosts... Rhonda, because this event takes place in her hometown!!
We hope you will enjoy your time as you hop and that you feel
inspired to create some Derby Fun!

The Kentucky Derby, which first ran in 1875, is best known for the Horses, Kentucky Bourbon and the beautiful Derby Hats that are worn and takes place every year, the first Saturday in MAY. It is a two week long event... Imagine Mardi Gras to New Orleans if you will! It all starts with a kick off... THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE, the biggest firework show in North America. In those two weeks there are many events that take place and many STARS visit and attend these events... a lot are fund raising events for some great charities. In addition to DERBY PARTIES folks here have at home!

Thank you for stopping by my blog today to check out my Derby Project. Before I tell you about my fun project, I want to give a GREAT BIG thank you Miss Rhonda for arranging all of this great blog hop!  She is so great!!!

I decided I wanted to create a fun derby hat and found a fun pattern on the Silhouette Store for a mourners hat.  A nice little top hat.   A hat that looked easy enough, but took me a lot longer than I really wanted it to.  Once I finally got the top hat completed I began to add pink (is there any other color) flowers to the hat.  Once I reached the back of my hat, I decided that I wanted these flowers taller, so they stood out over the top of the hat.

I added some fantastic white lace with pearls around the brim of the hat, and matching pink around the top.  I then basically added flowers filling in what I thought were holes.  One the back of the hat, I add daisy's (to help hide the stems of the roses).  I thought about covering the remainder of the hat with daisy's but was afraid it would make it look bad.

Here are my pictures.  I hope you like it.
