Creations by Gill M Challenge

I created this simple layout for a challenge I found on the “Creations by Gill Mblog.  You will find her blog by clicking on this link.  I followed the sketch she provided and used a picture of my new granddaughter Alivia Gwen.  The paper I used is from the Colorbok Collection. I chose these two sheets because the printed paper says family and the other, simply because it matched the printed paper. The hearts are cut out of a scrap pink that I had left from something else and I do not recall what collection it was from. The pink flowers, similar to the flowers in the printed-paper and are just some embellishments I picked up at Michael’s, as are the three gemstones in the top left hand corner.

My First Valentine’s Day Card

Happy Saturday afternoon to everyone!
When I was in art classes in high school, my art teacher always told us to “think outside the box” which is what I tried to do when trying to create my first real card.  I made this card to send to my mom and dad for Valentine’s Day. I just have to figure out how to mail it because of the ribbon roses.
This card was really very easy to make, even if it did take me multiple attempts to get it to fit just right on the cutting mat.  I always managed to get it to far one way or another and it would cut of part of my heart. Or I would not get the two hearts close enough to weld them properly and they would come out as two different hearts.
I downloaded the SureCuts application and simply used the pre-installed shapes and flourishes to make these cuts. I then took some beige colored ribbon roses that I had and glued them in the middle of each cut out heart. Then I simply added some bling to give the outside a little bit of sparkle.
Plain yes, but a rookie has to start somewhere right.

Lincoln Stars Scrapbook Page

This evening I finally got started on my autograph scrapbook for the USHL Hockey Team my family goes to watch. The Lincoln Stars.
I spent a couple of hours trying to recreate their Logo (I wanted to cut it on my Cricut) so I could use it in my scrapbook. However, after several hours, and multiple failed attempts, I gave up and decided I just needed to get started with the rest of the book. After all, I have 27+ more pages to complete.

This is not going to be an elaborate scrapbook for several reasons.  First, since I am just getting started, I do not have a lot of cartridges to do things with and I want it to be just a few of the pictures that I have taken throughout the season.  I have eight more home games before I need to have the book completed.  Several of the players I still need to photograph.
I want to book to be durable, for this reason, I am using poster board as my backing. Rather than put the pages in protective sleeves, I plan to use a star punch to add three holes in the left margin, where I will then string fabric hockey ribbon to hold the scrapbook together. This is the ribbon I plan to purchase for that that task.  http://www.awesomeevent.com/Hockey-Theme-Ribbon-P803.aspx  There are 23 players, 3 coaches, 1 trainer, and 1 mascot. Each page will have the players name cut out in Cursive 101, (1” and welded) and a star with his jersey number cut out of the center of the star.  I made this cut with an SVG app.
In addition to the pictures, some of the players have earned player honors. For these players, I will add a journaling area where I will add these honors. For “doc” the page you see above, I will need to include a full page, because, yes, he is just that good.
One down, twenty-seven plus more to go.  J

Getting Started and organized

I see it has been a while since I have been in here.  Work has gotten in the way, it is the last week of one class and there are always so many papers that must be  graded.  However, I have been doing some practicing with my new cricut and even have attempted to make a Valentine’s day card.  This of course is not going out to anyone, I just was working some magic to see what I could come up with.
We went to town this weekend to go see our Stars Hockey team play both Friday and Saturday night. We won both games and two of our players were players of the week. (great to add to a hockey scrapbook)  Great games, now I just need to get busy working on their scrapbook pages. There are only 8 home games left before they do the autograph session.
While we were in town my hubby took me to both Hobby Lobby and Michael’s.  I got some things on sale, (stamps, paper, paint, bows, roses, stickers) oh the list is long. We also got wood to make some shelving in my craft room and a pegboard.
This weekend, before the Super Bowl, my husband donned his carpenters hat and built me a nice shelf to hold my supplies, and he hung up a pegboard to help organize some of my smaller things. Next, he is going to build me a shelf specific to hold all my 12 x 12 papers. It will be about the same height at this one, but wider and have a lot more shelves.  Being organized sure helps the crafting go quicker.

Today and tomorrow I need to get more serious about the scrapbooking ideas I have in my head. They are building up and becoming a jumbles mess.  I need to get busy and get crafting.

I have added one new cartridge to my inventory.  I now have five.  J  The Cursive 101 cartridge arrived in the mail yesterday.
