Kari’s Purplie’s Design Team

Photobucket

Welcome to another posting for Kari’sDesign Team.  Last week Kari challenged us to make a flower and tell our readers how we made the flower.  You can read my posting here, if you want to know how I made my flower.  This week, she asked us to take that same flower and create an altered journal.  Here is what I came up with for the challenge.

One of my favorite colors is pink, so it was without question that I use pink when I made my flower. However, had I known when I created the flower, what we were going to do with them, I would have used a much softer color of pink.

However, now that I have this bright pink flower, I have to use it. It took me a while to figure out how I could make my altered journal, but once I did, I got busy.

The paper I used is from the Paris Night’s Collection.  This is paper I received from my SIL and one of my fellow purplies, Lisa.  I am not a big vintage person but I am learning to like it more every day.

First I cut the top cover out of the note pad paper.  I rounded the edges and used a glue stick to glue the paper to the top of the composition notebook.  I then took a black stripped paper and cut a strip and added it to the left hand side of the notebook.  A great idea, I like how this looked, but I knew I was not yet done.  I had the damask strip of paper that I also wanted to add.  It was not until I had glued it on that I realized the damask strip totally covered the black stripped strip.  You can barely see the black in the curved areas of the top strip.

I really like how this looks, and now ,I have to add my flower.  I tried adding pearls to the design, but they quickly got lost in all of the musical notes. So I had to be a little more creative.  I knew I wanted a flourish, so I took one of my paper piercing strips and rather than poke holes to sew through, I used a colored marker to draw my design.  I then used a white glue to add my own pink gems to make my flourish.  I was not sure how this was going to look, but I am quite pleased with the final results.  Once all the gems were dry, I used my hot glue gun to add the flower.

Now, I am torn as to whether or not I want to add more to the journal cover or not.  I thought I could add “Singing Praises” or even “Just a Note” but I really like this paper, and I worried that anything extra would distract from the look of the book.  What do you think?  Should I add more to the front of the journal or should I leave it blanks as it is?

Thanks for visiting my blog today.  I welcome your comments as this is how I improve my work.  Please make sure you stop by my sister purplies blogs and see their altered journals as well.

Here is the full list.
